Visa planning and a pint!

22 September 2025

Not a lot of news this week.

The big news is that I have learned that if I apply for my non-lucrative visa (retiree visa) from the US before my current student visa expires in 2 January 2026, I can deduct 50% of my time here (one of two years) towards my permanent residency requirements. So, I starting to look at dates in the US…most likely in November. More as my plans get finalized.

I had a fun language intercambio with the sister of my school director this week. Tatiana works for a large bathroom/ kitchen design company and needs to improve her English. We met for a horchata on Friday afternoon. As it turns out, my Spanish is better than her English. So, I ended up speaking more in Spanish. I hope we can continue to meet. I know it was helpful to me.

I’ve looked at a couple apartments this week. I haven’t found the right one yet. I like not being in a hurry.

Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for the cold water to be fixed in the kitchen. They may come Tuesday. With this company, I’m not holding my breath.

Vicente and I went to the beach yesterday. It was my first time there in several weeks.

Tonight (Sunday) we met a bunch of friends for a typical English pot roast dinner at a local pub. With a pint of Guinness, it was like being in England.

It’s the first day of Fall and the extreme heat of summer seems to be letting up.

I hope you’re enjoying the changing of the seasons. Have a great week!
