Couchsurfing before Fallas

22 February 2026

I had a fun guest here this week from Argentina. Naza has been traveling through India, Sri Lanka, Lebanon, and Egypt. Now, he’s making his way down the coast of Spain.

We enjoyed two days of sightseeing, talking, eating and sharing stories of spirituality, faith, and connection. I feel like I’ve made a friend that I’ll stay in touch with for a long time.

One of the things we did together is visit the annual exposition on the Ninots. This is a precursor to the huge Fallas celebration that goes officially from March 1-19.

The exposition holds more than 300 adult and more than 300 youth sculptures, which will be part of the much larger Fallas works of art that will fill the streets next month.

The themes this year went from the horrors of war, national politics, the corruption of all politicians, Donald Trump, climate change, and random silliness.

The horrors of war
AI affecting everyone
Music creativity
The love of pets
Melting ice caps
The Little Prince
Jazz
Hundreds of youth entries
Route 66
War and the loss of innocence
Donald Trump
Generations learning together

Today, Vicente and Cooper came over. With his guidance, we made a typical Valencia dish, Arroz al Horno.

It came out delicious.

Rice, chickpeas, bacon, pigs feet, blood sausage potatoes, tomatoes, garlic

And there are leftovers!

Here’s wishing you a great week.
